About Google SiteSearch on Lipids Online
For its site-wide search, Lipids Online uses Google SiteSearch. This page explains Google's search syntax for this service.
- Basic search
Type in the search terms and press the Enter key or click the Search button. Google searches are not case sensitive. Example: cholesterol
Refine or narrow your search by adding more words to the search terms you have already entered. Example: cholesterol HDL
To search only the Lipids Online Slide Library, you can also use its search tool located at: http://www.lipidsonline.org/slides/
- Search for exact phrase
Use quotation marks. Google also recognizes hyphens, slashes, periods, equal signs, and apostrophes as phrase connectors. Example: "metabolic syndrome"
- Search for either of two terms
Use an uppercase "OR" between your search terms, to retrieve pages that include either word A or word B. Example: glucose OR obesity
- Search excluding specific terms
Put a hyphen ("-") immediately in front of the term you want to exclude. Make sure you include a space before the hyphen. Example: cholesterol -triglyceride
- Limit search to specific file types:
Use "filetype:" immediately in front of the type of file to want. Make sure there is no space between this phrase and your term. Example: filetype:pdf
- Search specific words in the URL:
Use "inurl:" immediately in front of your search term to retrieve documents that contain only that terms in the URL. Make sure there is no space between this phrase and your term.
Examples:
- To limit returns to the Slide Library add "inurl:slides" to your search terms
- To limit returns to Commentaries on Research add "inurl:commentaries" to your search terms
- To limit returns to Virtual Meetings add "inurl:meetings" to your search terms
